AES-256 encryption inside your browser. Your document and your password are never uploaded.

AES-256 is the strongest encryption provided for by the PDF standard, and the one professional software uses. With a good password, an encrypted file cannot be opened without it. All the strength therefore rests on the password you choose:
| Password | Strength |
|---|---|
qwerty, a date of birth | None: found in seconds |
| A dictionary word followed by a digit | Weak |
| 12 random characters, or four unrelated words | Strong |
Toolo's Password generator creates random passwords in one click.
Never put the password in the same email as the file: anyone intercepting the message would have both. Share it through another channel, a text message or a call. And keep it safe: a forgotten password cannot be recovered, not by Toolo nor by anyone else. That is the very principle of encryption.
"Remove" mode requires the password: it is not for breaking into a document, but for avoiding typing it every time you open it. The typical case is bank statements or payslips protected by default that you want to archive, merge or compress. Toolo's other PDF tools also need an unlocked file to work.
Encryption and decryption happen 100% in your browser. Neither the file nor the password is transmitted or stored.
Never. Encryption happens entirely in your browser; neither the PDF nor the password leaves your device.
No. "Remove" mode requires the current password, and properly done AES-256 encryption cannot be bypassed. Keep your passwords in a password manager.

Yes. AES-256 is part of the PDF standard: Adobe Acrobat, browsers and phone readers ask for the password and then display the document.
